Siddharth Glass & Aluminum Traders is based in Kothrud, specifically on 2nd Carpenter Street 39606. Dealing with glass is a careful job because one wrong move and everything breaks into a thousand pieces. We have large sheets of glass leaning against specialized racks that take up most of the space in the shop. Beside them are the long aluminium bars that we use for frames. The sound of a glass cutter scoring a line is something you hear all day here. It’s a sharp, screeching noise followed by a quick snap. We have to be very careful where we step because there are often tiny shards on the ground despite our sweeping. The shop stays relatively cool because of the shade in the street, which is nice during the summer months. It’s a bit cramped inside when a new delivery truck arrives and we have to unload the heavy crates. We don’t have a marketing team or a sales department; it’s just us talking to the locals who need a window fixed or a cabinet door made. Sometimes people bring in their own frames and ask us to fit the glass while they wait. We just do the work as it comes, making sure the edges are smoothed down so nobody gets cut. It’s a routine that we’ve gotten used to over the years in this part of town.
