Shreyash Provision & General Stores

We have been here at Shop No 2 in the City Pinnacle Building for a good while now. Somwar Peth is a busy area and being right near 15 August Chowk means there is always something going on outside the door. Most days start early before the sun is even fully up because the milk delivery comes in and people want their bread before they head off to work. It’s just me and a couple of others trying to keep the shelves from looking empty. Shreyash Provision & General Stores isn't a fancy place, just a normal shop where you can find your daily stuff like soap, oil, or a packet of biscuits. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the road and it gets a bit loud, but that’s just life in Pune. I spend a lot of time checking the expiry dates on packets and making sure the grains are clean. Customers come in and talk about the weather or the traffic at the chowk while they wait for their change. It gets dusty inside because of the main road, so we are always wiping down the counters and the jars. The ceiling fan wobbles a bit and makes a clicking sound, but it keeps us cool enough. We don't have everything in the world, but we try to keep the basics that the families around here need. It’s a lot of standing around and lifting heavy boxes of detergent or flour, and by the evening, my back usually hurts. But tomorrow is the same thing all over again.
