Our shop is located near Holkar Chowk in Sadashiv Peth. It’s one of those old parts of town where everyone seems to know each other by name. We’ve been fixing watches and clocks here for a long time. The shop is quite small, and the walls are almost completely covered with all sorts of timepieces. Some are very old and they tick quite loudly when it’s quiet. I sit at my workbench near the front of the shop where the natural light is a bit better for my eyes. I have all my tools laid out in a specific order—tweezers, small screwdrivers, and the eyeglass I use to see the tiny gears. It’s a lot of sitting and waiting for the right part to arrive from the suppliers. People bring in everything from expensive wristwatches to the cheap plastic alarm clocks they’ve had for twenty years. We don't try to look like one of those modern mall stores with bright lights. The floor is made of old tile and the wooden counters have plenty of scratches from years of use. It smells a bit like oil and old metal in here, which I don't mind. My grandfather was the one who started this place, and not much has changed since his time, except maybe the brands of watches we see. We don't do any big marketing or anything. Customers just know where we are. If you walk past Holkar Chowk, you’ll probably see me sitting there under the desk lamp. It's a steady life, keeping things running on time for the people.
