If you come down to Vishrantwadi, you’ll find us in B 6 of the Jalaram Complex. It’s an industrial sort of place, so don’t expect it to be quiet. The sound of the metal presses is pretty much constant from morning until we close up. We deal with sheets of metal that get stamped into different shapes. There are piles of steel and aluminum offcuts in the corners. The air usually smells like warm oil and cold metal. It gets pretty hot inside during the summer months, even with the big fans blowing. We wear heavy shoes because there’s always a risk of dropping something heavy or stepping on a sharp bit of scrap. The floors are concrete and have marks from where the machines have been bolted down. Most of the time, we are just busy checking the measurements and making sure the pieces come out right. We don’t do much talking when the machines are running because you can’t hear anything anyway. We get our hands dirty every single day. It’s not a fancy office; it’s a workshop. People come in to pick up their orders, and we load them into the back of their trucks. We’ve been in this spot for a good while, and the walls are covered in marks and old calendars. It’s a practical place for doing practical work.
