Shivanand

Shivanand is our shop located at 21/4 on Kharadi Road, right in the Dukirkline area of Chandan Nagar. We have been here for several years now, watching the whole area grow and change. When we first started, there wasn't nearly as much traffic as there is now. It's a busy spot, and the noise from the buses and bikes is constant. We sell various items that people in the neighborhood need for their daily lives. Our shop is quite small and we have stuff stacked up to the ceiling in some places. It can be a bit of a mess sometimes, especially when a new delivery comes in and we haven't had time to put everything away. We start our day early to receive the milk and bread deliveries. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting crates and moving boxes around. We don't have a big staff, so if one of us is sick, it gets really tough. We don't use any fancy computer systems for our inventory; we just know what we have and what we need to order. Some customers like to stay and chat for a bit, while others are in a big hurry. We try to be quick for the ones who are rushing. The floor gets dirty quickly with everyone coming in from the street, so we are always sweeping. It’s just a regular, local business trying to stay afloat.
