Shiv Kumar Auto Garage

Down here in Pimpri Colony, things move at their own pace. Our garage is usually full of bikes and the occasional car that’s seen better days. There is always oil on the floor and the smell of petrol in the air, which I guess is what you’d expect from an auto shop. Shiv Kumar Auto Garage has been in the colony for a while now, and we’ve seen all sorts of engines come through the door. Some days are just constant hammering and the sound of the air compressor running. We don’t have a fancy waiting room or anything, just a few plastic chairs tucked in the corner if someone wants to wait while we change their oil. Most of the neighbors know us by name and they just drop their keys off in the morning and pick up their vehicles after work. We get a lot of dust from the road, so we’re always wiping down the tools. It’s hard work and our hands are usually stained black by noon, but it’s what we do. We don’t use any computer diagnostics if we can help it; we prefer just listening to the engine and figuring out what’s wrong by hand. It’s a bit old school, maybe, but it works for the people around here. The colony is a good spot for us because there’s always someone needing a quick fix. The kids from the colony sometimes hang around to watch us work, and we have to tell them to stay back.
