Our place is in Budhwar Peth, specifically over at Vibhuti Society 494/1. It’s a traditional kind of spot, not one of those modern offices with glass walls and fancy chairs. We deal with various goods and the stock changes depending on what’s moving that week. The room is usually filled with the smell of old paper and whatever items we’ve got packed in the gunny bags near the entrance. I’ve been working here for a long time and I know every corner of this society like the back of my hand. The neighbors are mostly other traders or families who have lived here for decades. It gets quite loud during the day because of the narrow streets and the constant movement of carts and small tempos. We keep a ledger on the main desk and use a calculator that’s missing a couple of buttons, but it works fine for us. There is a lot of back-and-forth with people coming in to check prices or just to see what we have in the back. Sometimes the shipments get delayed because of the traffic in Budhwar Peth, which can be a real headache. We don’t have a website or anything like that, just the physical shop where we show up every morning. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy from ten until the evening when the shops around here start to close up.
