Shankar Vastaralaya

We are located at number 4 on Gyan Street. We are very close to the Chandani Chowk Market which everyone knows is one of the busiest places you can find. Gyan Street is a bit narrower but it still gets a lot of people walking through during the day. Our shop is filled with rolls of cloth and different fabrics stacked up high on the shelves. Sometimes I worry the stacks might fall over but they usually stay put. We spend a lot of time measuring out fabric and cutting it for people who come in. The floor is old wood that creaks when you walk on it. We have some big lights hanging from the ceiling so we can see the colors of the thread properly. It is a bit dusty because of all the fabric fibers floating around but we are used to it. I usually keep a glass of water on the counter because talking to customers all day makes my throat dry. We do not have any fancy displays in the window. We just put out a few nice pieces of cloth so people can see what we have in stock. It is a simple business that has been here for a long time. We know the other shopkeepers on Gyan Street and we often send someone out to get tea for everyone in the afternoon. It is a crowded and noisy area but it feels right to us.
