Santosh Steels

Our place, Santosh Steels, sits right in the middle of the New Timber Market over in Bhawani Peth. It is at Survey Number 72, which is directly opposite Vijay Vallabh High School. On some days, when the windows are open, you can hear the kids shouting during their break time, which is a bit of a change from the noise of the trucks. Gulali Chowk is always a bit of a mess with traffic, especially in the mornings when everyone is trying to get their deliveries in. We spend a lot of time just moving piles of metal from one side of the yard to the other. It’s heavy, honest work and nobody here wears a suit. The walls have seen better days and there is always a layer of dust on everything, but that is just how a steel yard is. We have a few guys who have worked here since they were young. They know every corner of this place. We drink a lot of tea from the small stall nearby while we wait for the lorries to arrive. Sometimes the rain leaks a little through the old roof, so we have to move the stock around to keep it dry. It is just a regular local business where we focus on the tasks at hand and try to get home on time. We don't have a fancy lobby or anything like that, just some chairs and a lot of iron.
