Sampan Food is located on Synagogue Street over in the Camp area, at Survey No 932. It is an old part of town with a lot of history, and our building feels that way too. We mostly do snacks and quick meals for the office workers and the people visiting the nearby shops. The kitchen isn't very large, so we have to stay organized or things get messy fast. I spend a lot of my time standing near the window watching the street while waiting for orders. We have some wooden tables that have been here since we opened. They’ve got a few scratches, but they work fine for a quick bite. The menu doesn't change much because we like to stick to what we know how to make. Sometimes the plumbing gives us a little trouble, but we fix it and move on. It’s a bit dark inside during the afternoons, so we keep the lights on even when the sun is out. People seem to like the quiet atmosphere here compared to the busy main road. We get a mix of old regulars who have been coming for decades and young kids who just discovered the street. I handle the accounts myself in a small ledger book. It’s how I’ve always done it. We just provide a place to sit and eat without any fuss. The street outside can get quite jammed with cars, especially during the lunch hour, but once you step inside, it feels a lot slower. We just keep doing what we do.
