Raskar General Store

Raskar General Store is right here at 288 MS Palya in Nana Peth. It’s a small shop, but we try to cram in as much as we can on the shelves. You’ll find everything from bags of rice to little bars of soap. It gets a bit cramped when more than three people are inside at once. I spend most of my day behind the counter, weighing out grains or counting change. The neighborhood is always lively, and I know most of the people who walk through the door by their first name. We talk about the weather or how the local cricket team is doing while I pack their bags. The shelves are made of wood and they creak a bit when I restock them. We don't have a computer system; I just write everything down in a big ledger book at the end of the day. Sometimes the cat from next door comes in to sleep on a sack of lentils, and I have to shoo him away. It’s a simple way to make a living. We open early for the milk deliveries and stay open until the street lights come on. There’s always dust from the road coming in, so I’m constantly wiping down the glass jars. It’s nothing special, just a local store for the people living around here. We’ve been in Nana Peth for a long time now. If we don't have something, I usually tell people where else they can find it.
