If you go down to Budhwar Peth and look for house 507/A, you’ll find Pravin Provision Stores. I’ve lived around here my whole life and the shop has stayed pretty much the same. We sell all the basic kitchen supplies and household things. It’s a tight space because we try to fit a lot of sacks and boxes in there. Sometimes you have to squeeze past a bag of sugar to get to the back. It’s not a fancy place with air conditioning. We just have a couple of fans that rattle a bit when they’re on high. People from the nearby lanes come here because they’ve known my family for years. I know most of my customers by their names and what they usually buy. It’s not like those big supermarkets where nobody talks to you. Here, we chat about the weather or the local news while I’m weighing the flour. The wooden counter is quite old and has some scratches on it from all the years of use. I keep a ledger for some of the regulars who pay at the end of the month. It's just how things work in Budhwar Peth. We open early in the morning and stay until the shutters go down at night. It’s a simple life but it’s our life, and we like it here.
