Pranay Prakash Chordiya

The Market Yard is a place that never really seems to sleep, and we’re right at Plot No- 1. Being at the very start of the yard means we see every truck and cart that rolls through the gates. Pranay Prakash Chordiya is the name on the papers, but mostly it’s just a few of us sitting in a small office surrounded by samples and ledgers. The air is always thick with the smell of grain and dust from the sacks being moved around. It gets incredibly dusty, especially when the wind picks up in the afternoon. Our office is nothing special—just a couple of wooden chairs, a big desk covered in slips, and a calendar that’s a few months out of date. We spend a lot of time talking to farmers and traders who stop by to discuss the day's prices. It’s a lot of talk and a lot of tea. There’s no air conditioning, just a big ceiling fan that pushes the warm air around. The days are long, starting early and often ending after the sun goes down when the last of the paperwork is filed. We don’t go in for anything flashy; we just want to make sure the bags are weighed correctly and everyone gets what they’re owed. It’s honest work, even if it’s exhausting. The yard is our whole world during the week, and though it’s loud and messy, we wouldn’t really know what to do with ourselves anywhere else.
