Mukesh Steel Centre

You will find Mukesh Steel Centre right near the Pimpri-Kalewadi bridge. Being so close to the main bridge road means there is always traffic and the sound of horns blowing all day long. The shop is full of steel bars and metal pieces stacked up against the walls. It is a dusty kind of job and our clothes usually show it by the time we go home. We spend a lot of time measuring things and cutting metal to the right size. The floor is concrete and can get pretty cold in the winter months. There is no air conditioning here, just a couple of big fans that move the air around. People stop by to ask about prices or to pick up supplies for their own building projects. Dealing with steel is heavy work and you have to be careful with your hands. We have been at this location for some time and have seen the bridge get busier and busier every year. Sometimes we have to move heavy loads out to the trucks parked on the road, which can be tricky with the traffic. It is a straightforward business without any bells and whistles. We just handle the steel and try to keep the inventory straight. It’s loud and busy, but that is just how things are in this part of Kalewadi. We just open up in the morning and stay until the work is finished and the gate is closed.
