Om Sai Pan Shop is located on Sinhagad Road 2. It is just a small corner spot that we’ve been running for a while. The traffic on Sinhagad Road can be pretty loud, but you get used to it after a week or so. I usually spend my mornings checking the inventory and seeing what we need to buy from the market. The shop isn’t fancy at all. We have a simple counter and some racks for the cigarettes and candies. The light inside is a bit dim, but it’s enough to see what I’m doing. I spend a lot of time folding the leaves and making sure the paste is the right consistency. Sometimes the regulars come by just to chat for ten minutes even if they aren't buying anything. It’s that kind of neighborhood. We don't have a big mission statement or anything like that. We just try to provide what people are looking for when they stop their bikes. The floor needs a lot of sweeping because people bring in dirt from the street. It’s just a small family thing, really. We don't have a boss in a suit telling us what to do. We just open up, serve the customers, and go home when the sun goes down. It is honest work and it keeps the lights on at home, which is all we really need. Some days are long, but that is how it goes.
