Down here in Shukrawar Peth, life moves at its own pace. My office for Om Gayatri Jyotish is a quiet place compared to the noisy streets outside. I’ve been sitting at this same desk for years, looking at charts and trying to make sense of what people bring to me. Most days, someone walks in with a worried look on their face, hoping for some kind of answer about their job or their kids. I don't have any fancy decorations, just my books and some old calendars on the wall. The tea stall nearby brings over a cup every afternoon, which is usually the highlight of the day. It’s a bit cramped in here with all the papers piled up, but I know where everything is. People in the Peth know me by now. I don't use any computer programs for this; I prefer doing the work by hand with a pencil and paper. It feels more real that way. Sometimes the electricity goes out and I have to work by the light from the window. It’s a humble setup, but it’s what I know. I’ve seen families grow up and come back with their own children over the years. It’s just me doing my bit in this corner of the city, taking things one day at a time without much fuss.
