Nilkamal Steel Center

It’s just us here at Shop Number 1 in the 2nd Block of Rajaji Nagar. We have been running Nilkamal Steel Center for a good while now. If you walk down the street, you’ll see the stacks of metal out front. It gets pretty noisy when we are cutting through the heavy pipes and sheets, but that is just how the day goes for us. The shop isn't fancy at all. We have shelves full of different hardware and the floor is usually covered in some iron filings or dust from the grinders. My hands are usually stained gray by lunch. We start early in the morning when the air is still a bit cool. Rajaji Nagar can get really crowded by noon, so getting the heavy deliveries in before the traffic picks up is always a bit of a race. Customers come in looking for specific sizes for their home repairs or maybe some small construction job they are doing nearby. We just grab the tape measure, mark it off, and get to work. It is simple work, really. There is no big office or anything, just the counter and the stock. Sometimes the tea guy comes by and we take a ten-minute break, then it’s back to moving the steel around. It's heavy stuff, so we definitely get our exercise in. We’ve known the neighbors for years and it feels good to be part of the block. We just keep doing our thing.
