New Jayanath Pan Shop

New Jayanath Pan Shop is located right in Dhanakawadi. If you live around here, you’ve probably walked past us plenty of times. The shop is quite small, and we have lived in this area for a long time. Every morning we get the fresh leaves delivered and we start sorting through them. Some are good, some are not, and we throw those away. We have these old wooden shelves that hold all our ingredients. They are a bit scratched up now. The floor is concrete and shows the wear of many years. We don't bother with fancy lighting or anything like that. It’s just a place to get what you need and move on. During the rainy season, we have to pull the shutter down halfway to keep the water out. It gets a bit damp, but we stay open anyway. Most of our customers are locals who live in the nearby buildings. They know us and we know them. We don't really have a big staff, just a couple of us taking turns behind the counter. It can be a long day, standing there and waiting, but there is always someone to talk to. Dhanakawadi is a nice enough place to have a business. We don't try to be anything special. We just keep the shop open and do the work that needs doing. Sometimes the jars get a bit sticky, but that's just part of it. We keep our supplies in the back and work all day.
