Neelam Metals is situated at Shukrawar Peth 321, right in the heart of one of the busiest trading areas. The shop is mostly just a large open space filled with different kinds of metal. We have huge industrial scales near the entrance because weighing everything is a big part of what we do every day. The floor is made of thick metal plates to handle the weight of the heavy bundles that get dropped off. It’s a noisy place, especially when the scrap is being moved around or loaded onto the back of a tempo. We don't have any air conditioning, so we keep the big front doors open all day, which lets in all the noise and smells of Shukrawar Peth. There is a small wooden cabin in the back where the accounts are handled, but it’s usually overflowing with papers and old files. We don't go in for any marketing tricks or fancy displays. The metal speaks for itself, and people know us by our location. Sometimes the traffic in the Peth area is so bad that it takes an hour just to move a few blocks, but that’s just life here. We start early and finish late, usually covered in a bit of dust and grime from handling the materials. It’s a tough, honest business, and we’ve been at this same spot for as long as anyone can remember. We just keep track of the weight and the prices.
