Naik Hospital

This hospital is over at 548/A in Shukrawar Peth, right on Shivaji Road. If you’ve ever walked down this road, you know how much is going on at any given hour. The buses roar past and there is always someone shouting something. We’ve been at this spot for years. It’s an old building but it serves its purpose well enough. We see a lot of different people coming through the doors of Naik Hospital. Some are locals from the Peth and others are just passing through and needed a doctor. The floors are worn down from so many people walking on them over the years. We spend our shifts checking in patients and making sure the doctors have what they need. It’s honest work. The noise from Shivaji Road stays with us all day long, even inside. We’ve got benches for people to wait on and a front desk that has seen better days. It’s not a corporate office; it’s a place for sick people. We handle the paperwork and the medicines and the various complaints that come with running a hospital in a busy area like Shukrawar Peth. Sometimes the power goes out for a minute and then the generator kicks in. That’s just life here. We stay open because people need us to be here. It’s a simple arrangement. We show up every morning, open the doors, and do the best we can with what we have for the community.
