Mayur Mini Market

Mayur Mini Market is tucked away in Janata Vasahat in the Parvati area of Pune. It is a very crowded neighborhood with narrow lanes and lots of houses close together. Because space is tight, I have to stack things all the way to the ceiling. We have everything from plastic buckets to spices and snacks. It can be a bit of a squeeze when more than two people are inside the shop at once. I’ve been running this place for several years now. Pune has grown so much, but this little corner feels the same. People come in all day for small things they ran out of at home. I don't use a computer for billing; I just use a notebook and a pen. It works fine for me. Sometimes I lose my pen and have to hunt for it under the newspapers. The noise from the street is constant, with kids playing and people talking loudly. I like the energy of it. I know most of the families around here. We talk about the local news or the weather while I bag their items. It’s not a polished supermarket with trolleys. You just ask me for what you want and I find it in the stacks. Sometimes I forget where I put something new, and it takes a minute to find. It’s a busy, messy, but honest way to spend the day.
