Maratha Mughlai is tucked away on Dhole Patil Road, and if you aren't looking for it, you might walk right past. We have a small kitchen that gets incredibly hot because of the tandoor oven we keep in the corner. The smell of charcoal and grilled onions is always stuck in our clothes. We don't have a big fancy dining room, just some simple tables and chairs that we move around to fit whoever walks in. The walls are painted a plain color and we have a few old pictures hanging up that have faded over the years. Dhole Patil Road is always busy with cars and people going to the offices nearby. We get a lot of workers coming in for a heavy lunch before they go back to their desks. Sometimes we run out of onions or greens and someone has to run down the street to the market to get more. The sink in the back leaks a little bit, so we keep a bucket under it and empty it out every few hours. It is not the kind of place you would go for a quiet conversation because the kitchen noise is always there. We use big heavy pans that are hard to scrub, but they make the food taste right. We stay open late into the night until the street finally gets quiet and the streetlights are the only things left on.
