Manoj Super Market

Number 13 on Tadiwala Road is where we’ve got Manoj Super Market set up. Don’t let the name fool you; it’s not one of those massive places with shopping carts and bright lights. It’s a decent-sized shop, but we’ve crammed so much onto the shelves that it feels a bit tight. You have to turn sideways sometimes to get past someone in the middle aisle. We’ve got the fridge near the front that makes a loud clicking noise every ten minutes, but it keeps the drinks cold, so we leave it alone. The floor is made of smooth cement that’s been worn down over the years by all the foot traffic. We get a lot of people coming in from the nearby apartments, especially in the evenings when everyone is getting home. I spend most of my day standing behind the counter, ringing things up and putting them into brown paper bags. The clock on the wall is five minutes fast, but I keep it that way so I don’t feel like I’m running behind. We have a little bit of everything, from flour to lightbulbs. It’s a bit of a squeeze when the delivery guys bring in the new milk crates, but we make it work. It’s just a local shop for the neighborhood, and we like it that way.
