I’ve been sitting at this bench at Manikanta Watch Company for quite a while now. We are tucked away at 20/1 Hermes Vishal, right on Lane No 7 in Balaji Nagar. It’s not a huge place, just enough room for the tools and all the tiny parts that go into a watch. People come in mostly when their battery dies or if they dropped their watch and the glass cracked. It’s quiet work, mostly just the sound of small movements and the street outside. Balaji Nagar is busy, but once you step into Lane No 7, things calm down a bit. I spend my days looking through a magnifying glass, trying to see why a gear isn’t turning. It’s fiddly work. Sometimes a repair takes ten minutes, other times I’m staring at it for an hour wondering what the previous guy did to it. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything like that. It’s just a counter and some shelves with old clock boxes. If you’re walking past Hermes Vishal, you’ll see our sign. I’ve seen kids grow up and bring their own watches in now. Time keeps moving, I guess. My hands get a bit cramped by the end of the day, but that’s just how it is. We just focus on getting things ticking again so people can get to where they need to be on time. It’s a simple living here. I usually keep the door open to let in a breeze, even if it brings in some dust. It's just how we do things.
