Mahendra Fruits is right there in Baner, specifically in the Baneri area. You can not miss us if you are near the Telephone Exchange because we are set up right in front of it. Being across from the exchange is great because there is always some activity and people coming and going. Our day starts at the market very early to pick out what looks good. Then we bring it all back and stack it up. We do not have a supermarket setup with barcodes and plastic packaging. It is more about piles of oranges, bananas, and whatever else is in season. The smell of ripe fruit is the first thing you notice when you walk up. We spend a lot of time sorting through things to make sure nothing is bruised. The traffic in Baner has gotten much worse over the years, so it gets a bit dusty near the road, but we keep the fruit covered or cleaned. We have a simple scale and some brown paper bags. Most of our customers are locals who stop their scooters on the way home to grab something for dinner. It is a basic business, but we take it seriously. We do not have any missions or visions; we just want to sell good fruit and clear the stock before it goes soft. It is a lot of standing around and talking to people about the daily prices. That is just life at the stall.
