Mahalxmi Super Market

Our shop, Mahalxmi Super Market, is right there in Bhosarigoan Dastur Wadi. If you live around here, you’ve probably walked past us a hundred times. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside when we get a lot of people at once, especially on Sunday mornings when everyone is out getting their groceries for the week. We have those big jars of biscuits and different kinds of pulses in sacks. Sometimes the floor gets a bit dusty because of the road outside, so we’re always sweeping. My uncle started this place and now I’m here most of the time. We aren’t trying to be like those big fancy malls in the city. We just have what you need for your kitchen. The fridge is always humming in the corner, keeping the milk and curd cold. It can get pretty loud with the traffic outside but you get used to it after a few years. We spend a lot of time counting packets and checking dates on things. It’s a lot of work but it keeps us busy. People stop by to grab a packet of cigarettes or some tea leaves and stay to chat about the weather or the local news for a minute. It’s a simple life running a store in a place like Dastur Wadi, but it’s our life and we like the people here.
