M T S Stores is located at Shivaji Nagar Ganeshkhind Road 5. Being on a main road means it’s always noisy outside with the buses and cars. Our shop is quite narrow so we have to be clever with how we stack the boxes. We sell a variety of everyday goods. It’s a family-run kind of place even if we aren't all related. We’ve been at number 5 for years now. The light inside is a bit dim because the windows are small, but we’re used to it. We spend a lot of time checking the inventory and making sure we don't run out of the popular items. Customers usually pop in on their way home from work. We don't have a lot of space for people to linger, so it's usually quick exchanges. We handle everything ourselves, from cleaning the front step to doing the taxes at the end of the month. It's a lot of work for a small business. Sometimes the rain leaks in near the back door during the monsoon and we have to put out buckets. It’s not perfect but it’s our place. We don't use any fancy technology here, just a simple register and a notepad for keeping track of things. We just try to be helpful to the folks in Shivaji Nagar who stop by to pick up what they need for their homes.
