If you go into Shukrawar Peth at number 3, you will find our place. It’s right in the middle of all the old buildings and narrow lanes that this part of the city is famous for. We handle a lot of metal here, so the ground is always a bit dusty and there is that heavy smell of iron in the air. We don’t have a fancy showroom. It’s mostly just stacks of material and a few heavy scales for weighing everything out. The ceiling is high, which helps a little bit with the heat during the summer months. We spend our days moving heavy loads from the trucks into the storage area. It’s a lot of physical work, and we aren't getting any younger, but we keep at it. Shukrawar Peth is always congested, so getting deliveries in and out is a real headache every single day. We have to time it just right or the truck gets stuck for hours. We drink a lot of tea to keep ourselves going. There is a small wooden chair near the entrance where we sit when things slow down for a bit. We don't really have a computer system; we just write everything down in the daily register with a pen. It is a simple way of doing business, and it has worked for us so far. We just try to be honest with the weights and get the work done before it gets too dark to see.
