Kolkata 17 is our little place on Nagar Road in Radhanagari. We wanted to bring some of the food we grew up with to this part of the city. It’s not a large restaurant, just a humble space where we cook. We do a lot of the cooking ourselves, using recipes that have been in the family for a long time. The kitchen is small, so you can usually smell whatever is being fried or simmered from the street outside. We don't have a big staff, just us and a couple of guys who help with the cleaning and serving. Most nights it’s quite lively with people coming in after work. We’ve got some tables and chairs, but nothing too fancy or expensive. We didn't spend a lot on decorations because we wanted to focus on the food instead. Sometimes the spices are a bit too much for some people, but that’s just how it’s supposed to be made. We get our vegetables from the market nearby every morning to keep things moving. Dealing with the traffic on Nagar Road is a bit of a headache, but we’re used to it by now. We’ve had some ups and downs since we opened, but we’re still here doing what we do. It’s just a place to get a good meal without any fuss. We hope people feel comfortable when they walk in.
