Hotel Mathura

You can find us at Deccan Gymkhana, specifically over at Rajaji Nagar 1262. It’s a busy spot and the noise from the street is something you just get used to after a while. I get here early in the morning to start getting things ready for the day. There is always a lot of cleaning to do, sweeping the front and making sure the tables are wiped down properly before anyone arrives. The kitchen starts up pretty early too, and you can hear the pots clanking together from the back room. We have been in this neighborhood for a good bit now and we see a lot of the same faces every single day. It’s a lot of standing on your feet and moving around between the tables. I spend a lot of time checking the inventory and making sure we aren't running low on the basics like tea or flour. Sometimes the water pressure is a bit low in the morning, or a lightbulb goes out and I have to climb a ladder to fix it myself. It’s just the usual stuff that comes with running a place like this in this part of town. We don't have fancy decorations or anything, just the furniture and the stuff we need to serve people. By the time evening rolls around, I’m usually pretty tired but there is still the closing work to do. We just try to keep things running smooth and make sure everyone who comes in has a place to sit and something to eat.
