You can find Grudev Datta Fruit Company over at F-443 on Shampur Main Road, right near Satara Road in R T Nagar. We deal with wooden crates and cardboard boxes all day long. It is a lot of lifting and moving stuff around to make sure the best fruit is sitting on top. The morning starts very early for us, usually while the streets are still dark and quiet. By the time the commute on Satara Road picks up, we are already in the middle of our work. Fruit is a tricky business because things go soft or go bad if you are not careful with them. We spend a lot of time sorting through everything. It is a messy job sometimes, especially if a crate of mangoes or oranges has not travelled well. The shop is basically just a big room filled with the smell of whatever happens to be in season right now. We have people coming in from all over R T Nagar. They want to pick through the piles themselves to find the ones they like, and that is fine with us. We just stand back and let them look. It is a lot of standing on your feet and talking to the delivery drivers who bring the stock. The floor is usually covered in bits of straw or crushed cardboard. We do not have much time for sitting down. It is just how it is when you are working with fresh food.
