Out here in Paithan, specifically in Balanager, life mostly revolves around the seasons and what the soil is telling us. We set up Globalise Organic Farming Producer Company Limited because a few of us felt like the old ways of doing things were getting too expensive with all the chemicals. We are operating out of Ganesh Raghunath Gorade’s place. It’s a simple setup, really. We spend a lot of time talking about compost and how to keep the bugs away without using the heavy sprays. It’s not always pretty. Sometimes a crop fails and we just have to start over, which is frustrating, but that’s farming for you. The Aurangabad heat can be a real challenge in the middle of the day. We usually get started really early before it gets too hot to breathe. Our group is small but we all know each other well. We handle the paperwork ourselves, which is a bit of a headache sometimes since none of us are really office people. We’d much rather be out checking on the rows of vegetables. It’s about keeping things natural and making sure the food we grow is something we’d want our own kids to eat. There’s no big secret to what we do, just a lot of sweat and hoping the weather stays on our side. People around Paithan know where to find us if they want to talk about organic methods.
