Gayatri Kachi Dabeli & Sandwich

Gayatri Kachi Dabeli & Sandwich is located in Narayan Peth on Lalbagh Road. It’s a small corner spot. We don't have much room for people to sit, so most customers just stand on the sidewalk. We use a lot of butter and spices every day. The grill stays hot from the moment we open. Narayan Peth is an old part of the city. The streets are narrow and crowded. Sometimes it feels like everyone is in a rush. We see a lot of students from the nearby hostels. They’re always hungry and looking for something cheap. We try to keep the prices fair. Lalbagh Road can get quite noisy with all the honking. You get used to it after a while. We prep the dabeli filling in the morning at home and bring it to the shop. The pomegranates take a long time to peel. My fingers are usually stained red. We also do sandwiches with whatever vegetables are fresh at the market. Some days the bread isn't as soft as we'd like, but we do our best with what the bakery delivers. Gayatri Kachi Dabeli & Sandwich has been our family business for a while now. It’s just a simple stall really. We don't have any big plans to change things. We just like seeing the regular faces every evening. It’s hard work standing all day, but it’s what we do.
