The shop is right here on NDA Road in Karve Nagar, number 6. It’s a busy spot most days. Usually, our morning starts early with the sound of the shutters going up and the first few cars pulling in. There is always a layer of oil on the floor that never quite goes away no matter how much we sweep it. It gets pretty loud with the tools and the engines running all at once. We spend a lot of our time under hoods or crawling on the ground checking things out. The big fan in the corner rattles all day but it helps with the heat when the sun is high. Customers usually wait outside on the small wooden bench or they go grab a tea nearby while we work. It’s not a fancy place at all. We’ve got stacks of old tires in the back and shelves full of spare parts that we know exactly where they are even if it looks messy to someone else. Sometimes it gets crowded when three or four people show up at the same time. We just keep moving from one car to the next until the sun goes down. Most of us have grease under our fingernails that just won't come out. It’s just how it is working here every day. We see the same faces from the neighborhood all the time. The traffic on the main road is always moving fast but we just stay here doing what needs doing.
