Defence General Kirana Stores

We are Defence General Kirana Stores, located out in Wagholi. It’s a growing area, but it still feels a bit like the outskirts sometimes. Our shop is a basic kirana store where we sell the daily essentials. We have big jars of snacks on the front counter and sacks of grains on the floor. It’s not a supermarket where you take a trolley. You just tell us what you need and we get it for you from the shelves. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming here for years. We keep a notebook for the monthly accounts of people we know well. Wagholi gets quite dusty with all the traffic, so we spend a lot of time wiping down the jars. It’s a simple routine every day. We open up, set out the newspapers, and wait for the first customers. We don't have a big staff, just me and my nephew. We talk to people about the weather or the local news while we weigh out their rice. Sometimes the supply of certain things is a bit slow, but we do our best to get what people ask for. We aren't trying to be anything fancy. We’re just a local store doing our thing. The shop is small and the ceiling is a bit low, but it stays fairly cool inside. It’s just our way of making a living here in Wagholi.
