Deeplaxmi Market

Deeplaxmi Market is right there in Bavdhan in the Navrangpura area. It is a place where you can find most of what you need for the kitchen and the house. We have big open bins filled with different kinds of pulses and spices that give the air a strong smell. The floor is concrete and stays cold under your feet. We spend the morning hours opening up crates and stacking the vegetables so they look decent. The Navrangpura traffic starts early and the noise doesn't really stop until late at night. We have a heavy metal shutter that we pull down when we are done for the day. There is a small counter where we keep the register and some smaller items like matchboxes and batteries. The lights are those long tubes that flicker once in a while. People from the nearby apartments come in frequently for their daily groceries. We have a scale that we use to weigh everything out and it makes a loud clicking sound. It gets a bit chaotic when more than five people are inside because the aisles are quite narrow. We try to keep things in order but by midday there are usually empty boxes lying around the back. It is a lot of physical work moving the bags around but it keeps the day moving fast. We just keep the shop running as best as we can.
