Deepak Genral Stores

Deepak Genral Stores is just a small shop, number 23, located on the VI Road in Khadakwasla. It’s a pretty straightforward place. We carry the usual things like flour, sugar, some biscuits, and the stuff people need for their kitchens every day. The shelves are packed pretty tight, so you have to know exactly where everything is kept or you’ll be searching for a while. We open up early because people around here like to get their milk and bread before they head off to work or school. It’s often dusty because of the road right outside, so we are always dusting off the jars and packets. Khadakwasla is a nice area, but it gets very hot in the afternoons, and the shop stays a bit cooler because of the way the building is shaded. We have a small bench where sometimes people sit for a minute to talk about the weather or the local news. There is no fancy billing system here, just a notebook and a pen for keeping track of things. We know most of the people who come in by their first names since they live just down the street. It’s a simple life running a store like this. You see the same faces every day and you learn what they like to buy. By the time we close up in the evening, we are tired but it’s a good kind of tired for us all at the shop.
