Working at the hospital near Irla Bridge means you get used to the sound of traffic pretty early in the shift. We are located in the Tata Compound, which is a bit of an older part of Andheri West, but everyone around here knows the spot. It’s always a bit of a rush in the hallways, especially in the mornings when the new shifts start and families are coming in to check on people. The building has been here for a while, and you can tell by the way some of the floors are worn down in the middle from all the walking. We have doctors and nurses moving back and forth, and the smell of cleaning supplies is just part of the atmosphere. It isn’t the kind of place you’d call quiet, but there is a certain rhythm to how things get done. We handle all sorts of cases, and the waiting area is usually full by ten in the morning. Sometimes the lifts take a bit too long, so most of us just end up taking the stairs to save time. It’s a lot of hard work, and the days feel very long when the wards are full. We just try to get through the charts and make sure everyone gets seen. There isn’t much time for sitting around or taking long breaks. Most of the staff has been here for years, so we all know each other’s habits.
