Deccan Dyes & Chemical Industries

Our place, Deccan Dyes & Chemical Industries, is located at Shukrawar Peth 1/2B. It’s an old building and the walls have seen better days. Working with dyes and chemicals means our hands usually have some sort of color on them that won't come off for days. We deal with various powders and liquids that people use for textiles or small-scale manufacturing. The shop has that sharp chemical smell that you get used to after a while, though visitors always notice it right away. We have shelves piled high with containers and bags. Everything is labeled by hand because that’s how we’ve always done it. Shukrawar Peth is such a busy area that getting our supplies delivered is always a bit of a struggle with the narrow roads. We don't have a fancy reception area. It’s just a counter where we talk to the customers and a back area where we store the heavy stuff. Most of the people who come to us have been doing business with us for years. They know we don't do anything corporate or formal. We just provide the materials they need and we write out the bills on a simple notepad. Sometimes the light in the back is a bit dim but we know our way around the stacks. It’s a quiet life of measuring out portions and keeping track of the stock. We close up around 7 PM usually.
