Darshan Dairy Farm

Waking up at four in the morning is just what we do here at Darshan Dairy Farm. It’s been that way since I can remember. We are located in Wanowrie 3, and the neighborhood is usually quiet when we start our work. The cows don't wait for anyone, so the first thing is always feeding them. The shed needs constant cleaning too. It’s a lot of physical labor that most people don't see. We don't have a big office or anything like that. Most of our time is spent standing in the mud or hauling heavy milk cans around. My boots are always dirty by six a.m. People from around Wanowrie 3 come by to get their milk. We don't do much talking, just fill the containers and move to the next task. It’s a repetitive life, but it’s what we know. The air smells like hay and animals, which I’ve grown to like over the years. We don't use fancy equipment for every little thing. A lot of it is still done by hand. Sometimes a cow gets sick and that throws the whole day off. You just have to deal with it as it comes. We aren't trying to be the biggest dairy around. We just want to get through the day’s work and make sure the animals are okay. It’s a simple existence here. My father did this, and his father too. We just keep the tradition going. Every day is the same.
