Damale Dairy

Damale Dairy is located in Chinchwad and it is the kind of place that starts working while most people are still asleep. The milk cans arrive early and there is always that specific smell of fresh dairy and cold water in the air. We spend the first few hours of the day just getting everything ready for the morning rush. Chinchwad has a lot of families who come by with their own steel containers to get their daily milk. We also have packets of curd and sometimes fresh paneer when the batch is ready. The counters are made of stainless steel and they need constant wiping because milk spills are just part of the job. It is not a very big space, but we have the big refrigerators humming in the background all day long. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to worry about the temperature, which is always a bit stressful. The floor is usually wet because we are always washing down the cans and the tiled surfaces to keep things tidy. We do not do any fancy advertising, people just know we are here in Chinchwad because they have been coming to us for years. It is a lot of repetitive work, pouring and sealing and checking the dates on everything, but it keeps us busy from dawn until we close up in the evening. There is a sense of routine that never really changes no matter what else is happening.
