D R Vishwakarma Furniture is situated at Vadgaon Budruk, right at the Danget Corner. We are near the Shiv Krishna building and not too far from the Pune Bangalore Highway Bridge. You can usually hear the sound of the saws before you even see the shop. We work with wood all day long. There are piles of planks and bags of sawdust everywhere you look. It’s a busy workshop and it’s usually quite messy, but that’s how we like it. We make chairs, tables, and cupboards for people around the neighborhood. Sometimes people bring in old furniture that needs fixing. We take our time with it. It’s not a factory; it’s just us working with our hands. The noise from the highway is always there in the background, but we’ve gotten used to it. My cousin and I started this shop because we like the smell of fresh wood. We don’t have any fancy brochures. We just show people what we are currently building. Sometimes we sit on the finished benches and have our lunch. It’s a simple business. We deal with the suppliers for wood and glue and then spend the rest of the time cutting and sanding. If the weather is too humid, the wood acts up, so we have to be careful. It’s just how the work goes. We stay here until late most evenings finishing up the orders.
