Bharat Transport Corporation

Down at 23/30 Nigdi, things are usually pretty loud and moving fast. That’s where Bharat Transport Corporation is based. Nigdi is one of those places that never really seems to go to sleep, especially with all the transport activity. Our spot is right in the middle of it all. The office isn't much to look at, just a functional space where we keep our logs and answer the phones. The floor is concrete and has some oil stains near the door from people walking in and out all day. We have a calendar on the wall that's a couple of years out of date, but it’s mostly there to cover up a hole in the plaster. There is a lot of dust that comes in from the trucks passing by, so everything has a thin layer of grey on it by five o’clock. We drink a lot of strong tea to keep ourselves going through the long shifts. It’s a practical environment for a business like ours. We don’t have fancy carpets or air conditioning that actually works properly, but the fans keep the air moving enough to be comfortable. Most of the guys here have been working together for a long time, so there’s a lot of joking around even when things get stressful. It’s just a regular local operation at 23/30. We do the work, look after the place, and keep things moving.
