Balaji Super Shoppping

JJ Road in Dighi is where we set up every morning. The shop isn't huge, but we pack it with everything from soap to snacks. Usually, the first thing I do is pull up the shutter and sweep the front. It gets dusty quick. People from the nearby houses come by for their daily bread or a packet of milk. Most of them I know by name. Sometimes we run out of the popular biscuits, and I have to tell them to come back Tuesday. The lights flick on, and that’s the day started. It’s a lot of lifting boxes and arranging things on the shelves so they don’t fall over. We don’t have fancy displays or anything. It’s just shelves and a counter where we count change. The fan in the corner makes a clicking sound, but nobody minds it. On rainy days, the floor gets a bit muddy from all the feet coming in, but that’s just how it is. We try to keep things organized, but when a big delivery comes, there are crates everywhere for a few hours. It feels good when the shop is full of people talking. We’ve been here a while now, and the building has some cracks, but it’s home for the business. Dighi is a busy place, and we just fit right in and keep going.
