About Balaji Super Market – Food & Beverages in Pune
Being in Dighi, Balaji Super Market is just a regular part of the neighborhood. We don’t do anything flashy. The shop opens up early and we start by bringing the bread crates inside. It’s a lot of lifting and moving stuff around to make sure the customers can actually see what’s on the shelves. Most days it’s just me and a helper lad who handles the heavy sacks of rice and wheat. We get all sorts of people coming in, some just looking for a single egg and others filling up a whole bag for the month. The lighting in the back is a bit dim because the bulb flickers sometimes, but we know where everything is. It’s funny how you can tell who is coming just by the sound of their scooter outside. Dighi has changed a lot since we first set up here, more buildings and more cars, but the shop stays pretty much the same. We have the usual snacks hanging on strips near the door which the kids always grab. We don't have a big computer system for everything, just a notebook for the regulars who pay at the end of the month. It's a bit old fashioned maybe, but it works for us and the people who live around here. We just want to make sure the shelves aren't empty when someone needs something.
