Balaji Steel Art

Balaji Steel Art is located on the 1st floor on 20th B Main Road in Kalewadi. It is a bit of an unusual spot for a steel shop, being upstairs, but we make it work. We spend our time working with stainless steel, making things like balcony railings, window grills, and frames. The shop is always filled with the bright light of the welding sparks and the loud grinding sound of the metal polishers. There is a smell of burnt metal that stays in our clothes all day long. We have racks against the walls holding long pipes and flat bars of steel. Most of our work is done by hand, measuring out the lengths and bending the metal to the right shape. It is a small team here, and we are usually wearing our work shirts that are full of tiny holes from the sparks. Kalewadi is a busy area, and we often have to lug heavy finished pieces down the stairs to load them onto the transport. It is tricky work because everything has to be lined up just right or the gate won't close or the railing will be crooked. We don't have a showroom; customers just come up to the workshop and show us a drawing or a photo of what they want made. We just give them a price, write it down in the notebook, and start the work.
