It’s a bit of a trek to get out here if you’re coming from the main city, as the roads can get pretty congested with all the trucks and factory workers. Bajaj Steel Industries Ltd has been operating from this spot for a long time. The factory floor is where most of the action is, but the office tucked away in the corner is where we handle the daily logs and payroll. It’s quite noisy because of the machines running nearby, so we usually have to raise our voices a bit to be heard. The office itself is pretty basic, with some fluorescent lights that flicker sometimes and a lot of metal cabinets for all the industrial drawings. We don't really have any decorations on the walls, just some old safety posters and a calendar from three years ago that no one bothered to take down. We have a small canteen area where we eat our lunch, usually talking about the local cricket matches or the commute home. It’s a hardworking place where people just put their heads down and get on with it. There’s no pretense here; it’s just an industrial site where things get built and shipped out every day to wherever they need to go.
