Ayyapa General Store

Ayyapa General Store is located in Kamala Nagar, Akurdi, right across from the Bajaj Auto Asha Lata Park. This neighborhood is a mix of people working in the nearby factories and families who have been here for decades. The shop isn't anything fancy to look at from the outside. We have a simple metal shutter and a few glass jars filled with candies on the front ledge to catch the eyes of children passing by. Inside, the space is a bit cramped because I try to stock as much as possible, from notebooks and pens to basic groceries. The Jakat Naka area can get quite dusty with all the trucks and vehicles moving around, so I spend a fair amount of time dusting the packets with a cloth. I grew up around here, so I know most of the people who walk through the door. We don't have any big advertisements or shiny displays. Usually, the radio is playing softly in the background, and I’m busy checking the stock or talking to a neighbor. The shelves are made of simple plywood and they are starting to sag a little under the weight of the detergent bottles. It is a quiet kind of work, just keeping things organized and making sure I have what people ask for. When the park gets busy in the evenings, we see more people coming in for cold drinks or small snacks before they head back to their homes.
