Auto Steel Rubber Industries Pvt. Ltd. is located in the Technicians Block, specifically at C-2-1. Even though the name sounds big and official, we are just a group of people working with metal and rubber parts every day. The block is always humming with the sound of different workshops. Our space is filled with the smell of raw materials and the clanking of tools. We have different sections for the steel work and the rubber processing, and things can get quite hectic when we have a big batch to get through. It’s not a shiny, clean environment like you see in movies. There are oil spots on the floor and scraps of material in the bins near the machines. We take our breaks together and usually talk about the work or what’s going on in town. Most of us have been working with these materials for years, so we have a feel for it that you can’t really get from a book. We don’t have a fancy lobby for visitors, just a door that leads straight into the work area. We’re more interested in how the parts come out than how the office looks to outsiders. It’s a gritty, honest kind of job and we take it one day at a time. The Technicians Block is a good place for us because everyone there understands the point of making something tangible that actually works.
