Ashirwad Dinning Hall

Ashirwad Dinning Hall is located right on Shivaji Road in Kothrud. It’s a place where we do things the old way with big stainless steel plates and lots of small bowls. We don’t do individual orders much; it’s mostly just the meal of the day. The cooks have been back there for a long time and they know the recipes by heart. Kothrud is a busy part of town and Shivaji Road is always noisy with buses and scooters, but inside here it feels a bit slower. We have long tables because we think it’s better when people sit near each other, even if they don't know one another. The lighting isn't perfect and we use those big overhead tube lights that hum a little bit. We spend a lot of time scrubbing the floors after the lunch rush is over because it gets messy. There’s no air conditioning, just big windows and some fans that push the air around. We get a lot of families on the weekends and students during the week who miss their mother’s cooking. We don’t put up big posters or try to act like we are better than the other halls. We just put the food on the table and let people eat until they are full. That’s how we have always done things here. It gets very hot in the summer, but the buttermilk we serve helps everyone cool down while they sit and talk for a while.
